There were in 1840, neat cattle 9,931, sheep 5,882, swine 24,085; wheat 44,229 bush, produced, rye 1,240, Indian corn 454,248, oats 64,421, potatoes 22,849, tobacco 462,936 pounds, cotton 24,167; 11 stores, cap. $77,000; 2 tanneries, 6 distilleries, 2 flouring m., 10 grist m., 9 saw m., 1 printing office, 1 weekly newspaper. Cap. in manufac. $32,950. 4 acad. 117 students, 14 sch. 295 scholars. Pop. whites 8,072, slaves 1,796, free col'd 2; total, 9,870.

Dresden, p-v., Capital of Weakly County, Tennessee, 122 w. by n. Nashville, 808 W. Situated on one of the head branches of Obion r. It contains a court house and several dwellings.
